Grand Challenges

“Look at your learning space with 21 st century eyes: does it work for what we know about learning today, or just what we knew about learning in the past?” (Sir Ken Robinson, 2010).

“Physical spaces are central to creating a new paradigm for learning” (Clifford, 2012).

“Allow teachers and students to ask questions like: how can we change the way we think about school to improve learning” (Green, 2012).

“The learning space is an appropriate point of departure because it has been the literal center of the educational enterprise and can serve as a familiar basis for a look at the future in learning” (Warger and Dobbin, 2013).

“The design of our learning spaces should become a physical representation of an institution's vision and strategy for learning – responsive, inclusive, and supportive of attainment by all” (Designing Spaces for Effective Learning, 2014). 19

“Creative space can give a sense of surprise and challenge, and the switch from ‘ordinary’ teaching can influence students’ attention, motivation to learn and their way of thinking. It also supports the notion of playfulness and fun as essential factors in innovative and creative thinking” (Debono, 2008). 20
