Hebrew Class 2014 Psalm 119: Hebrew Word Studies Lesson Seven

Psalm 119: Tsade (tsaw-day) – a sickle; reaping hook. Many times refers to the harvest of grace. “Righteous” (vs. 137) – tsaddiq (H6662 – TWOT 1879c). “Commanded” (vs. 138) – tsavah (H6680 – TWOT 1887). “Righteous” (vs. 138) – tsedeq (H6664 – TWOT 1879a) (see above). “Very” (vs. 138) – mehode (H3966 – TWOT 1134) – found in many combinations, all expressing the idea of exceeding. “Faithful” (vs. 138) – emunah (H530 – TWOT 116e)

Psalm 119: “Consumed” (vs. 139) – tsamath (H6789 – TWOT 1932) – to put an end to; cut off; destroy; to become very tired & weary; exhausted. A very strong word for destruction or for completely silencing someone. “Enemies” (vs. 139) – tsar (H6862 – TWOT 1973a, b; 1974a; 1975a). To be between a rock & a hard place! “Forgotten” (vs. 139) – shakach (H7911 – TWOT 2383). “Pure” (vs. 140) – tsawraph (H6884 – TWOT 1972). Tried; refined. “Small” (vs. 141) – tsaw-eer (H6810 – TWOT 1948a). Least in significance, privilege, and desirability).

Customarily addressed to a specific recipient, & is intended to elicit a specific response. “Keep” (vs. 145) – natsar (H5341 – TWOT 1407). “Cry” (vs. 146) – qara (see above). “Save” (vs. 146) – yasha (H3467 – TWOT 929). “Keep” (vs. 146) – shamar (H8104 – TWOT 2414).

Psalm 119: “Rise before” (vs. 147) – qadam (H6923 – TWOT 1988). “Cry” (vs. 147) – shava (H7768 – TWOT 2348). To cry out with intensity for help. “Hope” (vs. 147) – yachal (H3176 – TWOT 859). Confident expectation; trust. “Awake” (vs. 148) – qadam (see above). “Voice” (vs. 149) – qole (H6963 – TWOT 1998a; 2028b). “Near” (vs. 150) – qawrab (H7126 – TWOT 2065). “Near” (vs. 151) – qawrab (see above). “Old” (vs. 152) – qedem (H6924 – TWOT 1988a).

Aleph (ah-lef) (vs. 1-8) – an ox – generally refers to prosperity; strength under an agricultural economy. Beth (bayth) (vs. 9-16) – a house; a tent – generally refers to the plan of God; living, or, being at home in the plan of God for your life. Gimel (ghee-mel) (vs ) – gimel is a camel; camel’s neck; soul. The camel is a beast of burden; well-traveled. Represents an extensive knowledge of Bible doctrine. Daleth (daw-leth) (vs ) – door; curtain to tent – entrance to relationship with God; entrance into the plan of God. He (hay) (vs ) – window; lattice – new perspective. Waw (wow) or Vav (vs ) – hook; nail; peg – the Word of God is the hook on which a believer hangs his life. Zayin (vs ) – a weapon. Our weapon is the Word of God (prayer is our heavy artillery). Cheth (or heth) (vs ) – a fence or enclosure. The Grace of God protecting the believer. Teth (vs ) – to roll together. Concept of relationship. Yod (vs ) – a hand (viewed from the side – a hand cupped). The hand of blessing – our true security. Kaph (caf) (vs ) – the palm of a hand (simply an advance on the Yod). Lamed (law-med) (vs ) – an ox goad. Mem (maim) – originally signified water. Refers to the “water of the word” of Ephesians 5:26. Emphasizes the importance of Bible Doctrine. Nun (noon) – is a fish. Stands for provision, especially in the midst of judgment or pressure. Samek (saw-mek) – a prop; a support; a fulcrum. The fulcrum is Bible doctrine. Ayin (ah-yeen) – signifies an eye. The Omniscience of God. Pe (pay) – a mouth. Tsade (tsaw-day) - a sickle; reaping hook. Many times refers to the harvest of grace. Qoph (cōf) - Back of the head. Represents the subconscious. Resh (ray-sh) – The head. Refers to what you think. Shin (sheen) – A tooth. Tau (or Tav) – A signature.
