Unit 26 – preparing for work placement Lesson objective: To understand how to prepare for work experience

Starter Why are you doing work experience? What is the point? How will work experience benefit you?

Unit 26 We are going to complete unit 26 – preparing for work experience This unit will help you prepare for and get the most out of your 2 week placement

First part of unit 26 We cannot complete the first section of unit 26 until you have all received your job descriptions. We will do this next week as you should all have received your work experience forms by then

Today We are going to complete tasks 3.1 and 3.2 Go to Moodle>Year 10 WorkSkills>Unit 26>Student Workbook>save the workbook to your areas (in a unit 26 folder)

Point of work experience Work experience gives you the opportunity to experience employment first hand Your employer will treat you like a proper member of staff and as a result of this they will have certain expectations of you These expectations will need to be met in order to ensure a successful placement

Workplace values What is a workplace value? It is the concepts and ideas that lead to workplace satisfaction There are a number of different types of values, including; place customer service at the heart of the business, produce quality products, celebrate diversity, promote mutual respect, encourage creativity, recognise and reward achievement and good work

Workplace values Importance of workplace values in a work placement Helps you to understand what is expected of you by your employer and helps you in meeting those expectations, e.g. how to treat other staff and customers appropriately, how to do job to a high standard, how to prioritise daily tasks, how to make decisions

This would need to be fully explained in order to meet the criteria Task... You need to complete the first 2 bubbles on values for assessment criteria 3.1 and 3.2 (in your student workbook, learning outcome 3). Remember you need to explain why they are important in achieving a successful work experience placement E.g. Value 1 – being respectful to all staff Why important – this is important because I must show the manager and other members of staff that I am able to work with other adults. This will help to ensure a successful placement because.... You CANNOT copy this!!! This would need to be fully explained in order to meet the criteria

Personal presentation It is also important whilst on placement to present yourself in the correct way, why? Personal presentation includes; Wearing appropriate clothing for the job role Having good personal hygiene Attitudes and behaviours Body language

This would need to be fully explained in order to meet the criteria Task 2 You now need to explain 2 personal presentation requirements that your employer would expect from you whilst on placement. Remember you need to explain why they are important in achieving a successful work experience placement E.g. Personal Presentation 1 - good hygiene Why Important – it is important to have good hygiene when on placement because...... It is important in ensuring a successful placement because..... You CANNOT copy this!!! This would need to be fully explained in order to meet the criteria
