We will guide, advise and inform each student regularly to enable each person to at least achieve their predicted grade.

Why choose GCSE Art? 1. Opportunity to develop your creative skills through a variety of different media: drawing, painting, Illustration, digital photography, Film animation art

Courses possible: Fine Art, which enables you to explore a broad range of art experiences including: drawing, painting, photography, digital manipulation, film, collage, 3D, mixed media. Photography, which teaches you how to take good quality photographs and to how use photoshop to explore digital possibilities.

Why choose GCSE Art? 2. Through the study of art, students are developing a range of skills that are transferable to many further education courses, degree courses and occupations. These transferable skills include: Developing the ability to work independently Developing logical thought processes The ability to be well organised and present information in a coherent way. The ability to communicate both visually and with the written word

“ A degree alone is not enough. Employers are looking for more than just technical skills and knowledge of a degree discipline. They particularly value skills such as communication, teamworking and problem solving. Job applicants who can demonstrate that they have developed these skills will have a real advantage.” (Sir Digby Jones, Former Director-General, CBI)

The Designers Republic The Designers Republic (tDR for short) was a graphic design studio, founded on 14 July 1986 [citation needed] by Ian Anderson, and based in Sheffield, England. It was known for its anti-establishment aesthetics, while simultaneously embracing brash consumerism and the uniform style of corporate brands, such as Orange and Coca- Cola.graphic designcitation neededSheffieldEnglandanti-establishmentconsumerismbrandsOrangeCoca- Cola

Why choose GCSE Art? 4. To develop an understanding of art from different times and cultures and to develop the confidence to use it to inform own project work. Examples of this include: a visit to galleries and museums in a major British city a visit to galleries and museums in an International city every other year visits to the Sheffield galleries and museums artist in residence workshops with working artists

What do I need to do GCSE Art? It is recommended that you have reached KS3 levels 6,7,8. (you can do it with a 5 if you are motivated, discuss this with your teacher) An enthusiasm to explore your creativity

The structure of the New GCSE Art course 2 Portfolio Projects: 1. Freechoice with a Sketchbook (September – Easter Y10) 2. Freechoice with a sketchbook (Easter Y10 – Christmas Y11) 60% The Exam Project Choose 1 from a list of ‘Starting Points’ (Christmas Y11 – Easter Y11) 40% Full GCSE Art Award

The Art syllabus The ‘Freechoice’ sketchbook will include: This is great for art as it gives you more freedom to explore your creative potential with more time to review your progress. You will start the course with a sketchbook which will broaden your skills. This will include digital photography, drawing, acrylic painting, an art gallery experience, and other research.

The Exam Project This is a project, just like the last portfolio project, which evolves from a list of starting points. Again, you develop your skills and interests around your chosen theme. This project lasts from January to Easter in Y11 and it is worth 40% of your final mark.
