Presentation transcript:

 Having the Ears of Jesus –  How could he hear his father over all of the noise of life, and how did that connection empower Jesus for ministry?

 How do your ears work?  Sound Waves.

 What things do you like to listen to and what things do you not like to hear?  How important is your hearing?  How important is choosing to listen?  Have bigger ears!  Radio and walkie talkie.

 At a temperature of 68 o F (20 o C), sound travels at 1,125 feet/sec (343 meters/sec). This is the same as traveling at 756 miles/hr (1,217 km/hr). Also, as the temperature rises, the speed of sound gets faster.  The stapes is the smallest bone in the human body. It is only 0.25 to 0.33 cm long [0.10 to 0.13 inches] and weighs only 1.9 to 4.3 milligrams.

 Dizzy from spinning – go backwards!  Listening is a behavior that can be improved upon.  Why is it important that we choose what we listen to?  What helps you focus when you are listening?  How do you think Jesus was able to focus on what His Father wanted even when he was so busy?

 Be careful little eyes what you see,  Be careful little heart what you love,  Be careful little ears what you hear… For the Father up above is looking down in love so be careful little child what you do.

 Senator Lyndon Johnston. “You ain’t learnin’ nothin’ when you’re talking.”   Adlai Stevenson “I understand that I’m here to speak to you and you’re here to listen. Let’s hope we both finish at the same time.”

 Who are you tuned into?  3 competing voices –  Self, Satan, and God.  You have to keep adjusting the dial!

 “…let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance”

 My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,  Question: How well does this passage describe you?

 For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open. 18 Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken from him.”

 Mt 7:24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. …  26… But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. …

 Listen, and do what it says…  Keep looking into it…

 43 Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. …

 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For everything in the world — the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does — comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.

 As we hear from people in need, listen to their stories, listen to God’s voice of compassion within us, we move from evaluation to action as the Good Samaritans we are called to be.

 Tune out the world.  Tune into His voice and His purpose for His glory and the growth of the kingdom.

 The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5 But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.”

 While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”

This Week…  Jesus’ eyes led Him to the lost and the suffering, his heart led Him to the cross, and His ears led Him to His Father pay careful attention to where Jesus is leading you.   Next Week:  Being the Hands of Jesus.
