UN DPI (Department of Public Information) -Established in 1946 by General Assembly resolution 13 (I) -Goal: promoting global awareness and understanding of the work of the United Nations -Tools: newspaper, radio, television, film, print, internet… -Missions: communicating the ideals and objectives of the UN to the world, interacting and partnering with diverse audiences, and building support for peace, development and human rights for all

(1) Strategic Communications Division: formulating communications strategies on priority issues, launching global campaigns, managing the network of 63 UN information centers and offices around the world (2) News & Media Division: producing and publishing news and information on the UN’s priorities and activities, building partnerships with media to reach target audiences, supporting the work of journalists and news organizations covering the work of the UN (3) Outreach Division: engaging and educating people and their communities worldwide to encourage support for the ideals and activities of the UN

Outreach Division (1) Mission: fostering dialogue with global constituencies such as academia, civil society, the entertainment industry, educators and students to encourage support for the ideals and activities of the United Nations.  Efforts targeted at the public are carried out in alliance with key partners that include celebrity advocates, partner libraries, and the media.  It promotes increased participation and involvement of the general public in the work of the UN by means of conferences, exhibits, cultural events, publications and teaching materials.

Outreach Division (2) Programs -Advocacy and Special Events: bringing awareness to the issues and work of the UN through creative partnerships with the media, NPOs and the entertainment industry -Education Outreach: creating and disseminating educational material on the UN for students and teachers at all educational levels to build long-term support for the Organization (Key activities: UN Cyberschoolbus, the Global Model UN) - NGO Relations: facilitating the exchange of information and develops partnerships with civil society to enhance their interaction with and understanding of the work of the UN (collaborating with 1,500 NGOs associated with the UN DPI)

Outreach Division (2) Programs -Publications and Editorial: producing authoritative and accessible information publications on the main activities, driving concerns and leading ideals of the UN (the quarterly magazine “UN Chronicle”, the annual reference work “Yearbook of the United Nations”, the primer “Basic Facts about the United Nations”) -Visitors Services: managing the guided tours operations and group programs at UN Headquarters in New York which every year attracts nearly half a million people from around the world (also responsible for exhibits displayed in the public areas at Headquarters)
