Substation L1/ MCC L1 Update #2 July 27,2012
Status of Procurement Substation All approval drawings submitted Testing is expected to take place August 8-10 Delivery will occur soon after testing is completed MCC All approval drawings submitted Expected arrival date of Mid to Late August (55-75 working days after approval drawings reach factory floor) Drawings approved on 5/30/2012 Cable All cable delivered Stored in LINAC 350 MCM will be stored at warehouse until installation is closer Panelboard Delivered Needs to be assembled
Status of Procurement (Cont.) Safety Switches Delivered Stored in LINAC Cable Supports Delivered Stored in LINAC Support Structures Will be built out of unistrut Assembly has not yet begun Support frames will be built in house Junction Box Drawing is complete Fabrication companies have yet to respond Since only one needs to be ordered it is unlikely that a company will construct this enclosure Will be submitting the drawing to the machine shop soon
Project Schedule Currently at a stand still Complexity Safety issues Install should still be okay for originally planned September install General Cleanup 2-3 weeks prior to shutdown of substation Temporary electrical power will be setup the weekend prior It could take riggers several days to remove and install substations Small clearances Large weights May be several more days if given okay to shore the floor
Issues Substantial Weight Increase 10,500 lbs. vs. 17,700 lbs. Gallery floor has a very low load limit (350 lbs./sq. ft.) This could effect everyday operations Fork lifts, Tour groups, Removing equipment from downstairs Could be wrong Stevenson has no suitable indoor crane Ceiling height is too low for carrydeck crane 55,000 lbs. Shoring the floor may not be a possibility Much of the transformer will need to be dismantled Secondary bus bars, frame, sheet metal Increases electrician time
Suggestions FESS has been notified that it needs to begin looking into ways to fix this issue Cut a hole in the ceiling Has been done at other sites around the lab Install outside Requires Federal to make outdoor gear Engineering Expense Siemens subcontract issue Expensive cable runs Rigging job would be simplified Aesthetics committee
Temporary Power Plan “Siphon” power from panel DHP-L2-2 Circuit #1 Cable will be run on temporary supports 4 conductor 350 mcm cable is heavy (~7 lbs./ft.) and will need an open area to lay Some cable will be put on the floor but will be covered by a cable bridge Setup 2 temporary panel board(s) Run cable to individual loads DHP panels, MCC loads DHP panels will be locked out and tagged out Group lockbox MCC loads will have configuration control locks We will check current prior to using any MCC loads to ensure they will not trip off during operation Power will be provided 24 hours a day
Installation Costs 1 Crew of Riggers (4-6 men) Unknown Cost Will remain unknown until a plan is put in place by FESS 2 Week of Electricians $100/manhour x 2 electricians x 80 hours = $16,000 Cable 2/0 - $3,500 2 – $3,700 House Power $4,200 for panelboard $2,000 for assembly Miscellaneous Stock purchases $2,100 Total Cost : $31,500 -> excluding rigging Previous Estimate: $23,000 -> excluding rigging Increase can be attributed to increased electrician time and panelboard cost
Commissioning Visual Inspection Hi-Pot Disconnect panel boards from temporary power Reconnect panel boards DHP-L1-1 will be turned on first Fire alarms Lighting Etc. DHP-L1-2 DHP-L1-3
What Will Become of the Removed Equipment? Transformer will be kept as a spare Currently have 1 spare for 8 transformers (5 – high rise, 3 – LINAC) Transformer will be examined to make sure it is in good working order Will be stored in Booster parking lot Will be placed on a truck the same day it is removed to avoid excess rigger fees Breakers Will be rebuilt and tested Used as spares Primary Switch Will be rebuilt and tested Used as a spare
Future Create Site Wide Monitoring Network PIP Project Not PIP PIP Project ???? Note: CG-1 has been moved from PIP schedule, and will now be handled by headquarters
Booster Y-BE2 Update What we did Current measurements Voltage measurements Thermal imaging scans Listened Disconnected all loads Y-BW2 Y-BE2 What we will do Move Spare to F0 All tests that are performed on new transformers will be performed on spare Oil samples Order new substation
