Week of: November Classroom News Reading - We are growing great readers. We have worked very hard to learn how to self-select “Just Right Books” not to hard, not to easy. November, is our 3rd month of school, bringing our AR book count to 6 books by the end of the month. Please remember they should be reading every night for at least 30 minutes. Being able to hear themselves read aloud to someone helps with fluency and comprehension, if you can lend an ear. They love it. Poetry Unit - We are starting to work on visualization through Poetry. We will close read a poem together. We identify and discuss how the author uses Figurative language. Onomatopoeia – Formation of words whose sound reflects or reinforces their meaning. Similes - A figure of speech using like or as; As easy as pie. As cute as a button. Metaphors- a comparison without using the words like or as; She is an angel. He is a sly old fox. Personification - human characteristics given to something nonhuman. Then they draw a picture on a 4x6 card and glue it to the back of the poem. Let the two weeks of Graphic Novels begin on November 6 th through November 30 th. They will have a ball!! Classroom news The next writing unit is Opinion Writing. They will have a great time learning how to voice their opinion in an organized clear manor. Math – Unit 2 The 4 th graders are using area models of and numerical models of 2 and 3 digit x 1 and 2 digit multiplication. Again, if you have any trouble with the homework try Think Central, or give me a call, I would be glad to help. Please remember to practice the basic multiplication and division fluency facts. Unit 3 is long division. Thank you for turning in the conference schedule request form. Your scheduled conference time will be sent out on Tuesday, and Wednesday November 2 nd and 3 rd. Please return the bottom half as conformation as soon as possible. If you have any conflicts with the day or time that you have been scheduled give me a call and we can reschedule with the time that remains available. Science is all about the Earth, Landforms and Volcanos. I would like to thank everyone for all their thoughts and prayers during what was a difficult time. It is never easy to lose someone close to you, but with kindness and prayers surrounding you, it makes the cold reality a bit warmer. Thank you. Warmly, Liz Walsh Dates to Remember No School- Friday, November 6 th, Teacher Workday Wednesday, November 11 Veteran's Day Conferences – Early Release – 12:15 Thursday, November 19th -through- Tuesday November 25 th Early Release - Wednesday, November 26 th Thanksgiving Break – Thursday, November 26 th and Friday, November 27 th Monday, November 30 th Regular Scheduled day.
