Presentation template FLEGT-REDD SYNERGIES meeting Barcelona, 12–13 April 2012 Template for 10 minute presentations on your forest governance work and your views/findings relating to key governance assumptions on FLEGT and REDD

Instructions for the presentation Relate your presentation to one or more of the key governance assumptions on the next page. Feel free to argue if you find any key assumptions or impacts missing from the overview. In order to give all participating organisations the opportunity to give a presentation, the time for presentations is limited to 10 minutes. Please submit your presentation to Ms Agustina Grossi ( agustina.grossi(at)efi.int) by 31 March 2012.

Governance assumptions central for FLEGT and REDD+ Reduced corruption among government and private actors in forestry 2.Greater transparency of forest related decision making Improvements across environmental, social and economic sectors, incl.: - Reduced forest degradation - Reduction of poverty among forest dependent communities - Increased profitability of forest industries 1.Improved forest governance Improved forest management Greater community benefits 3.Clear forest land tenure Reduced uncontrolled logging and land clearance Improved forest management 4.Increased capacity of forest management institutions Increased government revenues 5.Increased law enforcement Improved law compliance and implementation of forest management plans 6.Greater institutional capacity and effectiveness of forest sector authorities Expected impacts needed for FLEGT/VPA and REDD+ to function Assumed Outcomes

Note: The assumed impact pathways on the previous slide are merely a fraction or an extract of the complicated causal networks related to forest sector governance and related outcomes and impacts. The table above does not attempt to give an overview of these causalities; it merely aims at summarising the key assumption on which the policy approaches related to combating illegal logging and reducing greenhouse gas emissions through forest sector hinge on. The floor is left open for building a comprehensive view on impact pathways and causalities in this context.
