LO: To understand how an author uses a motif to foretell an event. Shared reading of pages Make any important notes/ quotations in your book. Any questions on your white board.

What does displaced mean? 1.Take over the place, position, or role of. 2.Move (something) from its proper or usual position. 3.Force (someone) to leave their home, typically because of war, persecution, or natural disaster.

Can you link the word ‘displaced’ to any of the characters? What do we, the reader, feel about Candy, once his dog is shot? What does he feel? On your whiteboard (1 per side), record two different reactions to the dog’s killing.
