Developing an adaptation action plan

Develop an action plan with target completion date Identifying actions This session

Building Adaptive Capacity e.g. training/awareness; planning; research Delivering Actual Adaptation e.g. building bigger storm drains; increased shading in outdoor spaces Adaptation Responses

Example: Kent Highway Services KHS9: We will recycle and use water harvesting where possible as part of our gully waste management – Delivering Adaptive Action (DAA) KHS10: We will monitor the impacts of severe weather events on our assets and use this information to inform assessments of maintenance and repair priorities – Building Adaptive Capacity (BAC) Kent’s Adaptation Action Plan

Example: Public Sector Estate PSE8: When retrofitting and maintaining our estate we will determine opportunities for passive cooling and other adaptation measures to be implemented at the same time (and in co-ordination with other opportunities such as renewables) – Delivering Adaptive Action (DAA) PSE3: We will undertake a programme of training and guidance on the impacts of climate change for building / facility managers – Building Adaptive Capacity (BAC) NOTE: There are a number of cross-cutting actions in the Kent Adaptation Action Plan which are likely to be relevant for your team and can form some starting points for your team’s plan. Kent’s Adaptation Action PlanKent’s Adaptation Action Plan

Identifying actions

Next Steps… 1) Complete the spreadsheet to develop an action plan 2) Embed actions identified into existing business risk management processes and business plans where appropriate *The aim is not to duplicate work, but to ensure that climate change becomes part of usual business considerations and is assessed proportionately alongside other processes.

Developing a robust risk management process: Once complete, the spreadsheet will be sent to (for checking any crossover with other plans to maximise use of resources). KCC Monitoring Systems: The plan will be incorporated into our IS014001and Kent Environment Strategy monitoring proceduresIS014001Kent Environment Strategy Next Steps continued…
