Evaluation Question 3 Rebecca Logan

Audience Feedback In order for our group to gather feedback about our main product and both ancillary products we would produce a questionnaire for our focus group. Within this questionnaire we would include open and closed questions. The purpose of using open questions is to give a range of opinionated questions which gives us a variety of ideas and opinions and the purpose of using a closed question creates a clear, brief answer which is easier to quantify rather than open questions. These range of answers will give us many suggestions on how to improve our products. The use of the internet and social networking sites would help us present our products to our particular focus group. Also, social networking sites such as Facebook and YouTube help us spread our products across to a broader audience and create a buzz. Another use of feedback that we were given was from the staff, their opinions helped us in order to create 3 great products to the top of our ability. By having the help from two media staff, it was interesting to see what they thought we could improve on because they are not part of our focus group. This helped us channel our products to a wider audience as well as our particular focus group. When the film would be released, we would be able to gather statistical information from the box office viewings in order to get an idea how successful our film is and if the products we used influenced our focus group and possibly wider audiences to watch our film. Another way in order to gain feedback about our magazine cover, a review in a film magazine such as ‘Empire’ would give us an opinion from a film fanatic. This would be seen by audiences maybe not typical of our focus group. By reading what other people think about our film it gives us an insight on what we did well and need to improve on.

What Questions Will You Ask? In our questionnaire we will use a variety of questions involving open and closed questions. Even though open questions being harder to collate, we get an opinionated answer rather than a closed question which however is easier to collate, you only get a brief answer. Questions to Ask: 1.What genre category do you think our film trailer comes under? Horror Crime Sci-fi/Thriller? Other: please specify 2.How would you rate the film? Very Good Good Average Poor Very Poor 3.How would you rate the following elements of the film trailer: a.Narrative (storyline): Obvious Intriguing Exciting Confusing Comment: b.Camera Work: Exciting Appropriate Uninspiring Comment: c. Editing: Clever Suitable Unsuitable Comment: d. Soundtrack/music Fully complimentary Suitable Unsuitable Comment: 4.Which film certification do you think is most appropriate for the film trailer: A 12 5.What kind of audience do you think would like the film trailer: a. Male or Female or both Comment_________________ b. Mainstream or Alternative/Cult or Both Comment_____________________ c. Middle class or working class or Both Comment_____________________ 6.Why do you think they would like the film trailer? _______________________________________ 7. What did you like most about the film trailer? _____________________________________ 8. What did you like least about the film trailer? _______________________________________ 9. How do you think the film trailer could be improved? _________________________________________ 10. Would you go and see this type of film? Yes No Maybe Don’t Know Comment:

Our focus group is for teens aged 15 – 19. We have chosen this particular group because rating our film for suitable for people aged 15 years and older, mainly for working/middle class males. We thought this would be a good focus group because this particular age group use social networking sites and are interested in new films being released involving the crime genre. State why it is useful for media producers to identify and gain feedback from their target audiences. It is useful for media producers to identify and gain feedback from their specific target audience because by being given constructive critique it helps the producers in order to improve their products with the information they have been given. With this constructive critique the producer can work with what the target audience has suggested and extend the products to a higher standard. Extending this point further of receiving feedback from the focus group, by making the products my specific to what the audience would like to see, the producer may gain more backing towards producing these products. Lastly, if you receive positive feedback from your focus group, it helps for your own evaluation of how well the products worked and appealed to the focus group. What things you did well within producing these products. As a group we also received interim feedback from staff and the rest of the group. We got feedback regarding the construction of our products, such as editing and what we could do to make it look typical of our genre (crime) we also discussed with the staff if we needed to do reshoots, we came to the conclusion that we had enough footage needed in order to construct our film trailer. We also received feedback from our own group, we discussed ideas with each other in group meeting in order to show our ideas to the others in the group and give our own insight to it. This helped a lot as it made us all contribute to what we wanted to do and how we would portray this. One staff teacher would look through our blogs and leave comments on it in order to give feedback on what more we could do to improve. Involving the whole class, by showing them our final products, and giving them a questionnaire to fill out for our film trailer. We were able to see the responses from people within our target audience and if they understood the narrative etc. This feedback was useful because we were able to look at the questionnaires and see what we did well and what we could of improved on, by getting this feedback it shows in what ways it worked well more than other parts. Audience Feedback
