Digital Citizenship Extended MAP  Digital Citizenship Week will be held November 16 th -20 th as part of an initiative to educate students and continue the dialogue in our community surrounding responsible and informed internet usage. Many of our students use the internet and social media every day in a number of capacities ranging from social networking to educational research. Using a variety of themes across grade levels (1 st -12 th ) we intend to focus attention on a number of related issues. These topics will be addressed through classroom lessons, MAP (middle school advisory program) activities, assemblies, presentations and structured learning stations in the middle school libraries. The internet and technology as a whole can be a wonderful source of connection and culture when used appropriately. We hope that all of our students will learn how to be a mindful citizen of the digital world.  On Friday, November 20 th students had extended MAP. During that time the following activities were completed:  Poster Contest – MAP groups were encouraged to create a poster to promote online safety. All posters will be submitted to the NYS Office of Information Technology Service as part of a state-wide poster contest.  Internet Safety Contract – Contract developed by the students during extended MAP to outline the rules of internet safety. Students were encouraged to think about how they wanted to be treated online and through their devices. All of the rules were sent to one online database. After Digital Citizenship week, students’ rules will be reviewed in order to create our first Mattlin Middle School Internet Safety Contract.
