What is STAAR? State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness TAKS vs. STAAR Student performance descriptors: – Level III: Advanced Academic Performance – Level II: Satisfactory Academic Performance – Level I: Unsatisfactory Academic Performance

Testing Schedule 3 rd grade: Math: April 23 Reading: April 24 5 th grade: Math*: April 2 (May 14, June 25) Reading*: April 3 (May 15, June 26) Science: April 24 4 th grade: Writing: April 2 & 3 Math: April 23 Reading: April 24 *The 5 th grade Math and Reading tests fall under the SSI requirement. The additional dates listed are retesting dates.

Student Success Initiative State performance requirement (5 th grade only) Requirements for Promotion: – SSI Must pass the reading and math tests 3 opportunities to take the tests – Academic promotion standards [found in EIE (Local) policy] 70 or above yearly combined average in language arts, reading, mathematics, science, and social studies 70 or above yearly average in reading 70 or above yearly average in mathematics.
