ILC IR FINAL FOCUS & EXTRACTION MAGNETS Prepared by Andy Marone ILC Workshop, Sept

DISCUSSION OUTLINE Magnet design status Service cryostat design status Interface regions Some Remaining engineering tasks

QD0 CRYOSTAT Overall dimensions of QD0 cryostat. Sized and shown for L*= 4500mm. For L*= 3500mm distance to IP would be 3245mm, all other dims. remain constant.

CURRENT OVERALL DESIGN QF1 Coil Assembly 1500mm QFEX1 Coil Assembly QF1 cryostat will a have similar design as the QD0 cryostat assembly. QD0 Cryostat Assembly 9490mm to IP L* = 4500mm (independent of L*)

QD0 Design Force neutral Anti-solenoid now inside 2k helium volume IP warm-cold transition Individual beam line coil supports Lead end transition All vessels sized for up to a 4500mm L*, any larger L* would require an increase in the diameter of each vessel.

Extraction Line Injection Line View looking in non-IP end of cold mass Coil platform and supports. Heat shield lines

QD0-SD0 SUPPORT SD0 QD0 & shield coil

SERVICE CRYOSTAT DESIGN STATUS Basic design completed (12) 1000 A leads (24) 100 A leads Possible revision of evaporator and heat exchanger (may lower overall height) More work on transfer line required 2250mm 200mm 760mm diameter Overall service cryostat dimensions

Service cryostat inner construction HTS leads Optimized copper leads Evaporator 4K heat exchanger Strain relieved lead connections

MAGNET INTERFACE REGIONS Non-IP end beam tube connections. IP-end connections. Cryostat support.

LEAD-END (NON-IP) BEAM TUBE CONNECTIONS Beam tube center line 25.4mm (1in.) 75mm maximum flange diameter.

IP-END BEAM TUBE CONNECTION Need to define beam tube connection (helico-flex?) End of cryostat may be adapted to accommodate desired connection type.

CRYOSTAT SUPPORT IDEAL AXIAL POSITIONS FOR CRYOSTAT SUPPORT TO BE PLACED Approximate positions of load transfer points.

SOME REMAINING ENGINEERING / DESIGN Add internal cold mass supports. Vibration analysis Lead bus design Detailed transfer line design Interface connection design Cryostat support connection and adjustment design
