GARBAGE WASTE & HAZARDOUS WASTE BY:SEAN ALLEN & ALFRED REMIJIO

GARBAGE WASTE EVERY YEAR UNITED STATES MAKES ABOUT 230 MILLION TONS OF “TRASH”.THAT IS ALMOST 4.6 POUNDS PER PERSON PER DAY.ONLY ONE QUARTER OF IT IS RECYCLED, WE CAN REUSE AND RECYCLE SEVENTY PERCENT OF LANDFILLED WASTE.

GARBAGE:HELP PRESERVE OUR RESOURCES IN ORDER TO HAVE A HEALTHY COMMUNITY, WE NEED TO HAVE A HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT. POLLUTION AROUND THE WORLD CAN EFFECT CHILDREN, ANIMALS, AND ETC. WE NEED TO TAKE EXTRA STEPS TO REDUCE WASTE, STOP POLLUTION, AND CONSERVE OUR RESOURCES. EACH PERSON HAS A ROLE TO KEEP POLLUTION AWAY. AT HOME, WORK, SCHOOL, AND ANYWHERE ELSE WE SEE POLLUTION.

WHAT IS HAZARDOUS WASTE? HAZARDOUS WAST IS SOLID, LIQUID, AND GAS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO HUMAN BEINGS AND THE ENVIRONMENT WHEN NOT HANDLED WITH CARE. IT CAN BE TOXIC, CORROSIVE IGNITABLE, EXPLOSIVE, OR RADIOACTIVE. BECAUSE OF THESE DANGERS, HAZARDOUS WASTE REQUIRES SPECIAL CARE WHEN BEING STORED, TRANSPORTED, OR DISCARDED.

WAYS TO DEAL WITH HAZARDOUS WASTE. IN AMERICA, 96 PERCENT OF ALL HAZARDOUS WASTE IS TREATED AND DISPOSED OF ON THE SITE AT WHICH IT IS PRODUCED. A VARIETY OF TECHNIQUES EXIST FOR SAFETY MANAGING HAZARDOUS WASTE.

THESE ARE THE TECHNIQUES: REDUCTION: THIS APPROACH REDUCES THE WASTE STREAM AT THE OUTSET. RECYCLING: SOME WASTE MATERIALS BECOME RAW MATERIALS FOR ANOTHER PROCESS OR CAN BE COVERED, REUSED, OR SOLD. TREATMENT: A VARIETY OF CHEMICAL, BIOLOGICAL, & THERMAL PROCESSES CAN BE APPLIED TO NEUTRALIZE OR DESTROY TOXIC COMPOUNDS.
