Presentation transcript:

UNITED STATES & CANADA YOU WILL NEED YOUR TEXTBOOK.

Essay Topic ◦ Can many cultures form a unified nation? ◦ Describe how U.S. and Canada are like a cultural mosaic or melting pot. ◦ Examine new cultural issues that the U.S. and Canada face. ◦ Construct a five paragraph essay on whether countries can be multicultural yet unified. ◦ Analyze primary sources for different views on multiculturalism in the U.S. and Canada.

Essay Topic ◦ In short, you will be taking a stance on whether or not you think a nation can be both MULTICULTURAL in makeup and UNIFIED as one nation. ◦ You will develop an argument (like in a persuasive essay) with specific examples that support your stance. ◦ You may use the primary sources in the textbook on pages only OR you may incorporate credible sources from your own research.

Filling out the Worksheet ◦ For today, begin with the Primary Source worksheet, where you will read each of the sources (A-E) and answer some basic questions to check for understanding. ◦ Tomorrow, you will begin working on the essay rough draft by completing the next two pages. ◦ Wednesday & Thursday we will be going to the media center to type the final draft of the essay.
