African-American civil rights leaders Antonio Martinez p.6 03/12/14

Rosa Parks December 1, 1955 was the day she couldn’t take it anymore, Parks refused to obey bus driver , the bus driver demanded she give up her seat in the colored section to a white passenger, after the white section was filled. Rosa parks did not move because she thought she didn’t have to because she thought everybody had the same rights. Rosa parks was not the only person who had been asked to move seats and they didn’t and they were arrested as well. She sparked the 381 day boycott that led to the desegregation of buses in the south.

Rosa Parks Arrested The bus driver had her arrested. Rosa parks was arrested and convicted of violating the laws. Martin Luther King Jr heard about Parks arrest M.L.K launched the boycott Montgomery buses. Which helped Rosa parks

Martin Luther King Jr He was an American pastor Leader of African American civil rights movement. led the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott he was well known for his “I have a dream speech” the speech expressed his vision of blacks and whites living together in equality and peace. 1964, King received the Nobel Peace Prize for combating racial inequality through nonviolence.

A Philip Randolph Was a leader in the African American civil rights movement. He led the brotherhood of sleeping car porters Randolph led the March on Washington Movement, that helped the president issue an order to ban discrimination in world war 2. In 1925, as founding president of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters. Organized first successful African American labor union in 1925.

Malcolm X Muslim minister detractors accused him of preaching racism and violence His dad died when he was 6, his mother was put in a mental home and he got put in a foster home. When he was 20 he went to prison for breaking and entering. in 1952 quickly rose to become one of its leaders after he got out of prison. "I did many things as a Black Muslim that I'm sorry for now. Thurgood Marshall He was an associate of justice since July 2nd, 1908 to January 24th, 1993 of the united states supreme court. was a lawyer who was best known for his high success rate in arguing before the Supreme Court. He then became a judge . He was a strong defender of civil rights until resignation from the supreme court in 1991
