**THE OPENING HYMN #811 ‘ANOTHER YEAR IS DAWNING’

Another year is dawning, dear Father, let it be In working or in waiting, another year with Thee; Another year of progress, another year of praise, Another year of proving Thy presence all the days.

Another year of mercies, of faithfulness and grace, Another year of gladness in the shining of Thy face; Another year of leaning upon Thy loving breast; Another year of trusting, of quiet, happy rest.

Another year of service, of witness for Thy love, Another year of training for holier work above; Another year is dawning, dear Father, let it be On earth, or else in Heaven, another year for Thee.

THE NICENE CREED We believe in one God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible; And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only ‑ begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, Very God of Very God, Begotten, not made, Being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made;

Who for us, and for our salvation, came down from heaven, And was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary, And was made man, And was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried, And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures, And ascended into heaven, And sits on the right hand of the Father.

And He shall come again with glory to judge both the quick and the dead, whose Kingdom shall have no end. And we believe in the Holy Spirit, The Lord and Giver of Life, Who proceeds from the Father and the Son, Who, with the Father and the Son together, is worshiped and glorified, Who spoke by the prophets.

And we believe in one holy, catholic  and apostolic Church. And we look for the resurrection of the dead, and the Life of the world to come. AMEN.  “catholic” means “universal”

SILENT PRAYERS OF THANKSGIVING AND CONFESSION THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON Revelation 21:5-6 And He who occupied the sovereign place said, “Behold, I make all things NEW!” Then He said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” He said to me, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty, I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life.”

Fill my cup, Lord, I lift it up, Lord. Come and quench this thirsting of my soul. Bread of heaven, feed me til I want no more. Fill my cup, Fill it up and make me whole. (Please repeat)

A TIME OF SHARING WITH GOD’S CHILDREN OF ALL AGES

THE HOLY SCRIPTURE Ephesians 5:15-17 Be very careful, then, how you live not as unwise but as WISE, (πονηραί) making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.

OPEN OUR EYES LORD Open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus, To reach out and touch Him, And say that we love Him; Open our ears, Lord, And help us to listen; Open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus. (Please repeat)

The New Year’s Sermon “PERSPICACIOUS” IN 2016 (PURSE-SPA-KAY-SHUS) Key Verse: Ephesians 5:15a Be very careful, then, how you live, not as unwise but as WISE

Observation #1 OUR TIME ON THIS EARTH IS LIMITED We must be very careful how we live because our time on this earth is limited. Show me, O Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting is my life. (Psalm 39:4)

Observation #2 MAKE THE MOST OF EVERY OPPORTUNITY Why? Because the days are evil One of our most valuable possessions is TIME

THE WORD “EVIL” IN VERSE 16 πονηραί Paul demonstrates the effects of evil in our lives by using the Greek word πονηραί which makes reference to a malignancy which starts small and slowly but steadily invades every part of our life, much like a malignant cancer can do.

We are OVERLOADED with (1)Secular Commitments (2) Earthly Possessions (3) Temporal work (4) Unusable Information

Observation #3 TRY TO DISCOVER WHAT GOD’S WILL IS FOR YOU 1- Establish God-honoring priorities 2-Set a specific time/place each day to read and study God’s Word 3-Communicate with and pray for loved ones and friends, even those who are not loving and friendly!

In 2016 be “PERSPICACIOUS” which means perceptive, wise and discerning: From Ephesians 5... Be very careful, then, how you live NOT AS UNWISE BUT AS WISE, making the most of every opportunity.

The Pastoral Prayer and The Lord’s Prayer OUR FATHER, WHO ART IN HEAVEN, HALLOWED BE THY NAME. THY KINGDOM COME, THY WILL BE DONE, ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN. GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD, AND FORGIVE US OUR DEBTS AS WE FORGIVE OUR DEBTORS; AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL. FOR THINE IS THE KINGDOM, AND THE POWER, AND THE GLORY FOREVER AMEN.

THE CLOSING HYMN #686 ‘O GOD OUR HELP IN AGES PAST’

O God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come, Our shelter from the stormy blast, And our eternal home. Under the shadow of Your throne Your saints have dwelt secure; Sufficient is Your arm alone, And our defense is sure.

Before the hills in order stood, Or earth received her frame, From everlasting You are God, To endless years the same. A thousand ages in Your sight Are like an evening gone; Short as the watch that ends the night Before the rising sun.

Time, like an ever rolling stream, Bears all its sons away; They fly, forgotten, as a dream Dies at the opening day. Our God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come, Be now our guard while troubles last, And our eternal home.

THE PASTORAL BENEDICTION Go forth from this place as God’s elect and covenant people... AMEN
