Battle of Medina  August 18, 1813  15 miles south of San Antonio  Republican army of 1,400 vs. Spanish Royalist army of 1,830  Only 100 republican soldiers survived  Nearly all filibusters are killed  Ambushed - 4 hour battle  The battle for independence is stopped again  Known as the bloodiest battle ever fault on Texas soil

Filibusters  James Long Expedition  June 1819 (after the Adams-Onis Treaty)  Led a group to Nacogdoches  Claimed Texas independent from Spain  Tried to take over La Bahia/Goliad  March 1822, Long was imprisoned in San Antonio  Transferred to Mexico City  Shot by a prison guard April 8, 1822
