Communicating a sense of identity

Topics for discussion ‘super site’ – a linking mechanism drawing together existing online resources – learner focused Practitioner ‘sub-site’ or intranet – practitioner focused Enabling communication between curriculum areas and whole CT

‘Super-site’ Proposed: a Sussex-wide overview of online prospecti, institutional websites and project websites (IAG) Benefits: coordinated access to IAG for the learner, reciprocal benefits to institutions Issues: syndication structure, so issues of content, control, connectivity

Issues Content : the site will link to other resources i.e. little or no direct control of that content Control: the site can have some control the way it links the resources together – home page will be branded as SLN Connectivity: 1) structured around home page node; 2) RSS links to resources

Questions for CT What are the roles of CT and SLN core team? How will the site research content? Who will provide technical support?

Practitioner sub-site / intranet A practitioner-focused subsite that will act as a central resource for the dissemination of curriculum activities Each curriculum area can have a dedicated part of the site The site can grow over time to include a variety of staff development resources

Issues How will the CT and the core team respectively contribute to this? The SLN team have produced icons to represent the main areas of SLN activity.: each curriculum team will have its own representative graphic…

Vocational Learning

CT Communications Communications between and within the curriculum areas could be facilitated by a variety of methods: Asynchronous Synchronous Intranet

Synchronous JISCmail list discussion fora – for example, does each area want an address for external

Asynchronous – for example: Online chatrooms Video conferencing SKYPE audio conferencing Collaborative whiteboards

Intranet The SLN CT will have access to an online version of the folder: What other resources could be included with this? Eg. contact profile database virtual learning environment
