Most rollercoasters, such as Outlaw Run and Powder Keg, are made of steel or wood. Wooden coasters, such as Thunderation from Silver Dollar City, are supported by concrete foundations. MATERIALS

The first thing you have to think about is what kind of riders are going to be riding the ride, such as little children or teens and adults. Most families enjoy rollercoaster rides with lots of turns and moderate forces. Rollercoaster designers have to think about the available space. Some rides have to twist through or around other amusement park rides! DESIGN

According to Time Magazine, the number one rollercoaster in the U.S. is Millennium Force in Cedar Point, Ohio. In Branson, Missouri, there is an amusement park named Silver Dollar City that has a wooden coaster called Outlaw Run that goes upside down! There is also a coaster called Nitro from Six Flags and it is 3rd in the world. FAMOUS COASTERS

The fastest rollercoaster ever is in Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi and it is called Formula Rossa. The tallest rollercoaster ever is Kingda Ka at Six Flags in Jackson, New Jersey. The longest rollercoaster in the world is the Steel Dragon in Nagashima Spa Land in Mie Prefecture, Japan. OTHER FACTS

In the 1920s, there were 1,500 wooden rollercoasters in the United States. A rollercoaster is an amusement park ride where people sit in wheeled cars that are linked together. HISTORY

The first type of rollercoaster was a miner transporting machine that moved like a rollercoaster! The first amusement park officially in America is Sea Lion Park at Coney Island in Brooklyn! ORIGINS

The oldest rollercoaster ever recorded was built in 1904, and now is in Lakemont Park, Pennsylvania. The first steel rollercoaster ever is the Matterhorn Bobsled in Disneyland!
