TIME OUT

THE DISCIPLINE SYSTEM -TIME OUT

Student Responsibilities To be on time for all lessons To come prepared for class with the right equipment and/or uniform To follow the school rules at all times To complete all work set To let others learn without being disturbed To always try to do your best

What if……? You misbehave in class… 1.Your teacher will ask you to stop whatever it is and get back on task 2.They may do this only once or a number of times 3.If you do not follow the teacher’s instructions they may say “You have a choice, follow my instructions or I will have to place you at TIME OUT 4.If you continue to misbehave, you will be placed at TIME OUT and you will be given a TIME OUT card

What is TIME OUT? TIME OUT is; a signal to you that the teacher has had enough of your poor behaviour a situation in which you have to follow a special set of rules a place or situation in which you can think about what you have done and which allows the teacher to get on with the lesson

Where is Time Out? When a teacher places you in Time Out they may move you to a special seat in the classroom OR If there is no place to move you they will leave you in your seat but you will have to follow the RULES OF TIME OUT

What are the Rules of Time Out? When you mare placed in Time Out you MUST; - REMAIN QUIET (No talking or making noise) - NOT ANSWER QUESTIONS or PARTICIPATE in any class activities apart from WRITTEN WORK - THINK about what you have done wrong - Only speak if the Teacher speaks to you first - SEE THE TEACHER AT THE END OF THE LESSON to make an appointment to make your PLAN

What is a PLAN? A plan is a set of strategies or ideas that will help you to improve your behaviour in class That’s the problem…You’ve done nothing!

How do I make a plan? At the end of the lesson see your teacher to arrange a time to meet with your teacher to complete the plan At the plan making meeting you will fill in side 1 of the plan by yourself and you must fill in side 2 of the sheet with your teacher

What happens once I have made a plan? You will be removed from Time Out and can participate as normal in your next lesson

What happens if my teacher sends me to Time Out again? If you get placed in Time Out a SECOND time you go through the same process as the first time If you get sent to Time Out for a THIRD time by your teacher you will be placed on a FACULTY SUSPENSION

How can I get placed on a Faculty Suspension? If you get sent to Time Out in class for a THIRD time If you fail to make a plan with your class teacher within 1 week If you misbehave after you have been placed in TIME OUT If you misbehave in the lesson of a casual teacher

FACULTY SUSPENSION A letter is sent home to your parents If you are placed on a faculty suspension you will be removed from your class by the Head Teacher You will report to the Head Teacher each time you have that class until you have made a plan The Head Teacher will place you on TIME OUT in their class or another teacher’s class

FACULTY SUSPENSION You must arrange a time to make your plan with the Head Teacher and your class teacher WITHIN 1 week If you make a plan you will be allowed to return to class If you are placed on a Faculty Suspension for a THIRD TIME you will be placed in the ISOLATION ROOM

How can I get placed in the Isolation Room? If you are placed on a Faculty Suspension for a THIRD time If you fail to make a plan with the Head Teacher within 1 week If you misbehave in class while you are on a Faculty Suspension

What do I do if I am in the Isolation Room? You follow a special set of strict rules You MUST complete a workbook which helps you to examine your behaviour and (hopefully) improve You will be interviewed by the Head Teacher Welfare and may be referred to the Counsellor or Mentor You will complete subject worksheets at other times

How do I get out of the Isolation Room? You MUST spend at least ONE FULL DAY in the Isolation Room You MUST complete the BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT WORKBOOK Your PARENT/GUARDIAN must attend the school for an INTERVIEW about your behaviour and the possible consequences if you fail to improve

What happens if I don’t behave in the Isolation Room OR I don’t organise an interview within 1 week

YOU WILL BE SUSPENDED FROM SCHOOL
