A Raving Report Double click videos to view

News Report This video of a mix between news cast and a personal interview, showing the biggest controversy over Raves. It explains the death at Electric Daisy Carnival and how that has caused an uproar with the rave culture. With her death, California's choice to try and ban Raves has created more controversy for the culture. Not everyone does drugs at these event so when a law tries to become implemented to ban Raves, it creates mayhem for the state and for the culture. I do not believe it is fair for the entire culture to be punished for one girls decision. She chose to take those drugs and therefore she chose to deal with the consequences. That may sound harsh but everyone makes their own decisions and has to take in account the consequences, she knew the risks and took them anyway. This is my main point. The rave culture is conceived as a drug infested group when its youth coming into these festivals and not understanding the culture and just want to party as hard as possible. Awareness must be spread by people in the culture so these misconceptions of Raves as drug infested parties can turn into a collection of similar minded individuals coexisting in one area for 2 reasons, music and PLUR(Peace, love, unity, and Respect.

Universal Groove This video by Joe Rogan as well as clips from other raves such as the Electric Daisy Carnival enables the idea that if we all came together under one roof maybe it wouldn’t be so bad. He allows the idea to expand when discussing the influence of drugs in this arising culture but includes that people don’t have to do drugs to see that this coming together of such masses of people is not a bad thing, rather a wonderful thing. If we lose the conception that raves are bad and only drug users attend them, then we can begin to see that such a massive collection of people is a good thing. We are uniting under one roof, so to speak, and sharing a common love. Raves are breaking the barriers that segregate people. The video clip wont play on my PowerPoint but please click the link to view.

Performers Point This video shows an example of joining the Rave culture through the use of drugs. In his case his friend showed him the ropes of the drug and how the music influences your mind and body to dance and love. Yes, he did use drugs and yes, they are used a lot but in the end he explains you don’t need drugs to be in this culture or live for this culture. He took the route of drugs as many do but that is not the case for everyone. With this video I wanted to give an example of the misconception that everyone does drugs. Many do but not all. Raves are a home for a lot of people to get away and be who they want to be and who they really are deep down. It gives people an escape and a place in the world that they have not been able to find.

Trans-religion Will Unite Us All

Above & Beyond The two videos on Above & Beyond show what many people in this culture are trying to accomplish. They use trance music to unite people from all around the world. Every week they do podcasts talking about “Group Therapy” and trans-religion. This is what the culture is about. Coming together under a common “roof” and combing who they are with one another. They use their music to unite, express, love, and help people. In the second video in Beirut, they did a contest for fans to express how they feel about the war and what has done to them. I cant help but get emotional hearing their stories because not even the news will give us that. “Group Therapy” with their music helps these youth deal with the war. Trans-religion, I interpret it as Trance music as a widespread religion around the world. Everyone listening to a common music, feeling a common feeling, and sharing a common love. This is what the Rave culture is about. It is so bashed because of people not understanding what we as a collective group can do for each other and in general. Above & Beyond is trying to show that we can all come together, even with all of our differences, and forget them to just express PLUR.

Summary Through the use of these videos I tried to show the multiple views and misconceptions of the Rave culture. One, by showing a news cast and how the people in government see the culture. The senate member even said that after trying to ban the raves, she attended one and understood to an extent why people attend them. The reason being to get away from life's daily toll for one night and unite and listen to beautiful music and dance. Next, Joe Rogan gives a great point by explaining the beauty in so many people gathering together to be part of something so great. With Rogan's other statements about the use of drugs and my video of Moto Pony and their use of drugs shows that it is impossible to eliminate the use of drugs. However if we put more positivity into these raves and stop being so against them, I believe drug use will go down and people will begin to realize how amazing it is that 185,000 people can gather together and just dance and share common ideologies. When your young and someone tells you not to do something your going to do it, and with raves it is the same. Only negative light is shed on this culture, but if we try to see Above & Beyonds’ two main ideologies, “Group Therapy” and Trans-religion, then we can finally begin to see the beauty in the Rave culture.
