New Netherland- The Dutch purchased the island of Manhattan from a Native American group called the Wappinger. This settlement became the only main Dutch colony in the Americas and was located along the Hudson River. The main city of New Netherland was named New Amsterdam. Now it’s “The city so nice, they named it twice!”
