Systematic Sample Definition: A sample selected by listing a population sequentially and choosing members at regular intervals.

Pros & Cons Pros Cons Spreads sample more evenly over population Depending on the nature of the methodology used, the sample can exclude certain objects Easier to conduct than simple random sample May be prone to bias Grid doesn’t necessarily have to be used, sampling just has to be at uniform levels Possible Periodicity

Process Step 1: Determine the population size Step 2: Determine the sample size Step 3: Use “Interval Equation” Step 4: Choose one sample out of the interval found from Step 3 Interval= Population size Sample size

Example For example, if Tanner wants to sell cookies to 250 people in his neighbourhood containing 1000 residence. Suggest a method for using systematic sample. Interval = Population size Sample size Interval = 1000 250 Interval = 4 Therefore, Tanner must choose 1 sample out of every 4 people in the population, starting with 1 random person from 4 people.
