The Afghan War The war in Afghanistan refers to the intervention in the Afghan Civil War by the United States and its allies, following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, to dismantle Al-Qaeda, the Islamic terrorist organization led by Osama Bin Laden and to remove from power the Taliban. U.S President George Bush wanted the Taliban to had over Bin Laden. The Taliban declined to extradite him without evidence of his involvement in the 9/11 attacks. The U.S refused to negotiate and launched Operation Enduring Freedom on October 7, 2001.

Osama Bin Laden Name: Osama bin Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden. Born: March 10, 1957, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Nationality: Saudi Arabian Died: May 2, 2011 (age 54) Abbottabad, Pakistan. Bin Laden was one of the FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitives. Children: 20 Wives: He had more than 3 wives.

Al-Qaeda Al-Qaeda is a global militant Islamist organization founded by Osama Bin Laden at some point between August 1988 and late 1989. It operates as a network comprising both a multinational stateless army. With the loss of their key leaders al-Qaeda operations have developed from actions from that were controlled from the top-down, to actions by franchise associated groups, to actions of lone wolf operators.

9/11 The 9/11 (September 11th 2001) was when two planes crashed into the twin towers. Al-Qaeda hijacked 4 American planes but made 2 crash into the towers. The Americans believed Bin Laden caused the planes to crash. Because Al-Qaeda’s leader is Bin Laden the Americans believe he caused 9/11.

Bin Laden’s Death On the 2nd of May 2011 Osama bin Laden was assassinated by the Navy SEALs. He was killed at the age of 54 in his house, Pakistan. The war was not fully over. The Taliban wanted to still kill the Americans for invading their home.
