Do Now: How do you think Hamlet will react to Ophelia’s death? HW: Read Act 5, Scene 1.

  How does Claudius use and manipulate Laertes own grief and anger?  What is the plan for Hamlet?  Laertes will challenge Hamlet to a fencing duel.  Laertes will be fighting with a sharp sword – able to wound.  The tip of the sword will contain poison.  If Hamlet avoids getting wounded or even grazed by the sword, Claudius will be ready with a poisoned cup. Ruthless Claudius

  Why was Ophelia doomed? What pressures did she face  Why are flowers attached to the image of Ophelia?  Ophelia sings in the river as she slowly sinks to her watery death. How did Ophelia go into her death? Ophelia’s Death

  Ophelia will have a funeral, but it will not be without drama. Let’s take a moment and eulogize her and remember this most innocent character in this tragedy full of sinful, vengeful characters.  Take on the perspective of ONE of the following:  Hamlet  Gertrude  Laertes  Yourself Remembering Ophelia
