THE IMPORTANCE OF TECHNOLOGY IN EDUCATION By: Catherine Casper

Benefits of Educational Technology  Improves overall skills in Math, Reading, and Writing  Breaks the mundane learning cycle, learning becomes more interesting  Prepares students for the future

What is Educational Technology? Educational Technology is a way for teachers to deliver content to students, different direct and face to face. In doing so, teachers will use mechanism of informational technology to deliver educational materials.

How do we use technology in the classroom?  Deliver lessons  Research within the classroom

Who uses technology?  Teachers  Students  Administrators  Parents

Impact of technology in education.  Develops a positive attitude towards learning  Increases skills of students  Increases work skills for the workforce

A few ways to use technology in the classrooms.  Create a web page to display student assignments, writings, and art work  Videoconferencing with classrooms around the world  Spreadsheets to keep classroom data organized  Spreadsheets to make math more interesting  Publish a class newspaper

Potential Problems.  Distracts some students  Can be very expensive to keep updated  Not all teachers are comfortable using technology, creating inconsistencies  Teacher are not properly trained

Making sure the use of technology is successful on your campus.  Teachers need to be properly and continuously trained.  Administrators need to set clear goals for the use of technology  Technology selections need to be useful instead of troublesome  Provide the appropriate technical support for teachers

Goals for teachers using technology.  Understand what technology you are using  Determine how this technology will better serve your goals and objectives  Make sure the technology is enhancing your lessons  Is it clear that the technology will directly encourage the learning of all students
