In the Midvale MYP Culture, We are OPEN-MINDED... ClassroomOn-TimeAssembliesLunchHallways I am willing to think about other people’s ideas. I am aware of how being on time shows consideration for others. When I participate in an assembly I am open- minded about what is being presented. At lunch our school’s culture is being willing to take turns by waiting in line. I understand and appreciate others around me.

Open-Minded: Classroom I am open-minded when I think about other people’s ideas.

Classroom Examples When working in a group, I listen to the ideas of all members in my group. I consider how other people who have different ideas then me can also be right.

Classroom Non-Examples Someone makes a comment during a class discussion. I don’t agree with it so I laugh and say that it is dumb. My teacher is making us try a new activity. I don’t feel like doing anything new, so I just sit there.

Open-Minded: On Time I am open-minded when I am aware when of how being on time shows consideration for others.

On Time Examples I realize that when I am late to class it disrupts learning for other students. I know that being on time shows respect for my teacher and classmates.

On Time Non-Examples I walk into class late and talk to people as I enter the room. I walk into class late and say to my teacher, “What are we doing?”

Open-minded: Assemblies When I attend an assembly I am open-minded about what is being presented.

Assemblies Examples Even though I may not really like an assembly I listen respectfully and try to keep an open-mind about it. During an assembly I try to learn something new from other peoples ideas.

Assemblies Non-Examples I don’t like the assembly so I talk to my friend instead of listening. I think the assembly is dumb so I make fun of the people who are on stage.

Open-Minded: Lunch At lunch our school’s culture is being willing to take turns by waiting in line.

Lunch Examples At lunch I wait my turn in line. At lunch I keep the walk way open between the tables and the cashier.

Lunch Non-Examples At lunch I hurry and find my friends at the front of the line and get in line with them. I push my way to the front of the line to get my food first.

Open-Minded: Hallways I understand and appreciate others around me.

Hallways Examples I smile and say hi to people as I walk down the hall. I try to make new friends with people I see in the hall.

Hallways Non-Examples When my friends and I see someone who is different then us, we make fun of them. My friends and I walk down the hallway in a big group and make it difficult for other people to get to where they need to be.
