Steps of Sci Method 1.Purpose 2.Hypothesis 3.Experiment 4.Results 5.Conclusion
Purpose What is the problem to be solved?
Hypothesis The predicted solution to the problem –Based on observations, research, or prior experience
Experiment The hypothesis is tested in a controlled situation. Experimental Group –Multiple subjects used to test the hypothesis Control Group –Multiple subjects used to simulate normal conditions –Standard(s) for comparison
Experiment Independent Variable –Factor that is manipulated by the experimenter Dependent Variable –Factor that changes as result of IV manipulation –Usually recorded as the data for the experiment
Experiment Minimize variables –Minimal difference between control and experimental groups Repeat
Results Data tables, Graphs, Sketches Visual representations are helpful Just facts, no analysis
Conclusion Hypothesis Discussion –Does the data support the hypothesis? –If the data refutes the hypothesis, was this due to an incorrect hypothesis or experimental error?
Conclusion Error Discussion –What experimental errors may have significantly affected your data? –In what manner did they skew your data?
