ACI Biometrics TF Where we stand The last meeting of the Biometrics TF: Montreal - July Establishment of Terms of Reference and development of the Bio TF issues list - Briefing from ICAO on MRTDs and “biometric blueprint” - Discussions on: - Facilities that airport operators need to install - Location and layout of arrival passport controls, in relation to current primary immigration lines - Possible use of self-service kiosks for check-in equipped for biometric identity confirmation - Cost of implementation - Cost recovery

ACI Biometrics TF Areas of work - Practicality - addressing airport needs in implementing biometrics, to optimize efficiency/security of border control - Other uses - possibility of using ICAO/ISO Biometric specifications for airline processes (incl. check-in and boarding), and for airport staff access control - Flows - Airport facilitation/security aspects, to ensure efficient passenger flows through the terminal building, including border control and automated border control.

- ICAO Technical Report on “Biometrics Deployment of MRTDs” covers biometrically-enabled travel documents and associated systems. - ICAO is re-issuing all parts of Doc 9303, with full biometric specifications, ISO approved. - Facial recognition is the primary biometric prescribed for border control – to enable global interoperability. - One or two secondary biometrics may be used (either fingerprint or iris). ACI Biometrics TF Issues Biometrics for border control

ACI Biometrics TF Issues Biometrics for other uses - Airline processes for passengers at airports -e.g. check-in, boarding - Enhancement of aviation security - Airport staff access to secure areas

ACI Biometrics TF Next Steps Second Meeting Geneva – April Development of the TF Work Plan - Review and update of the TF Issues list - Review of the current ACI policies in the Policy Handbook - Development and drafting of the structure of the ACI Biometrics Position Paper The Goal: Final version of the policy and Position Paper to be ready by July/August 2005
