Humpback Whale Megaptera novaeangliae Humpback Whale Megaptera novaeangliae

When humpback whales dive below the surface, they have to lift their tail flukes out of the water, showing a special black and white pattern on the underside.

Flukes range from all white, to all black, and everything in between. They are as unique as a human fingerprint or birthmark.

Step 1: Pick two or three special markings on your fluke picture.

Step 2: Match those marks to the flukes on the Fluke Catalog pages.

Step 3: Once you make a match, learn the name of your humpback whale. This whale’s name is Springboard!
