Cultural History Fun Times!!! Why do you think people make family trees? What is the purpose of mythological stories? What do you think are some cultural universals? What legendary Rock'N'Roll teen idol was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1958?

Genealogy THE STUDY OF FAMILY HISTORY AND LINEAGES

What is Genealogy?  Study of families and tracing lineages  Kinship: a group of persons descended from a common ancestor or constituting a people, clan, tribe, or family.  Genealogists:  Research  Oral interviews  Historical records  Genetic analysis

So what are things all people do?  Vital Statistics  Birth records  Death records  Marriage/Divorce certificates  Other records  Taxes  Medical  Religious: Membership, Baptism/Christening, Family Bible  Court records

Making your Family Tree  Be creative! Make an actual tree, use color, have fun!  Information to include: 1.) You!2.) Siblings 3.) Parents3.)Grandparents 4.)Aunts, uncles, cousins5.) Great-grandparents  Go back at least three generations the more the better though  Provide a key for relationships  Include pictures!  Use your family as a resource. Ask them!
