Jesus said, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.’ This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.’ These two commands are pegs; everything in God’s Law and the Prophets hangs from them.” (Mess)

A one way street?

Rom c5 v8 - God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (NLT) Eph c2 v4-5 - God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so very much, 5 that even while we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (NLT) 1 John c4 v This is how God showed his love for us: God sent his only Son into the world so we might live through him. This is the kind of love we are talking about—not that we once upon a time loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they’ve done to our relationship with God. This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. (Message) Zep c3 v17 - For the LORD your God has arrived to live among you. He is a mighty Saviour. He will rejoice over you with great gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. (NLT) Ps c86 v15 - But you, O God, are both tender and kind, not easily angered, immense in love, and you never, never quit. (Message)

1 John c3 v1 - What marvellous love the Father has extended to us! Just look at it—we’re called children of God! That’s who we really are. (Message) Deut c7 v9 - Understand, therefore, that the LORD your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and constantly loves those who love him and obey his commands. NLT)

1 Cor c13 v4-7 - Love never gives up. Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have. Love doesn’t strut, Doesn’t have a swelled head, Doesn’t force itself on others, Isn’t always “me first,” Doesn’t fly off the handle, Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others, Doesn’t revel when others grovel, Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth, Puts up with anything, Trusts God always, Always looks for the best, Never looks back, But keeps going to the end.
