Class of 2014 Work Towards the Future Today WORKING TOWARD YOUR FUTURE CLASS OF 2017!

Number of Credits You must have a minimum of 23 credits to receive a diploma from Douglas County School System. **18 credits are needed to be promoted to senior status.

Required Courses 4 credits of English 4 credits of Math 4 credits of Science 3 credits of Social Studies (4 courses) ½ credit Health and ½ credit Personal Fitness 3 Elective credits from CTAE, Fine Arts or Foreign Language

Science Biology Physical Science or Physics Chemistry, Environmental Science, or AP 1 additional Science (i.e., Anatomy, Forensics, AP)

Foreign Language Alert! Foreign Language is not required for graduation. 2 and 4 year colleges still require 2 credits of the same foreign language for admissions.

Move on When Ready (MOWR) Open to any grade level. Take and send SAT or ACT scores to the college. Complete the college’s MOWR application by the deadline on GACollege411.org If approved you will then register for courses with your MOWR college advisor and talk to your counselor here at CHHS. Complete paperwork for college & high school.

NCAA Eligibility Center  Juniors who intend to play division 1 or division 2 college level sports should register this year with the NCAA  The website is There is a link for prospective student-athletes (includes frequently asked questions)  Review the “Eligibility Standards”  Registration cost is $75.00 (fee waivers available)  ACT/SAT scores must be sent directly to the eligibility center– the code is 9999  High School transcript must also be sent to the eligibility center. See Ms. Walker-Harry. The cost is $3.00  You must contact a college coach to be referred to NCAA  NEW CHANGES FOR CLASS OF 2017! (refer to website)

ACT vs. SAT Juniors should begin taking the ACT or SAT in their second semester Both are accepted by colleges for admissions. SAT is reasoning test and the writing section is required, points deducted for wrong answers. ACT is knowledge test and the writing section is optional (most colleges want a writing score); points not deducted for wrong answers. Students must register for tests online.
