About the project Aim of the project – to develop a practical learning enviroment, or electronic “simulator”, that would allow students to acquire skills of use and management of HIS and EPR in different health care settings Duration of the project – 2 years, 2010 April – 2012 March Training of teachers, students

How the Simulator is developed Team of professional IT specialists – analytics, programmers, testers, working exceptionaly for the project The tasks for IT specialist team is formulated by members of faculties and departments, involved in student teaching Cooperation with software company, developing HIS

Structure of simulator Simulator consists of 19 modules, covering most aspects of health care institutions: (I) Structure and management Administration of institution infrastructure Analysis of instutition processes and management: different types of data and reports

Examples: institution structure (departments)

Structure of simulator (II) Patient flow: Reception, admission departments – printing out case history, forms (066, 025, 096, etc.) Management of patient flow in the In- and Out- patient departments – planning the visits, referrals, hospitalisations

Examples: personal patient data (part of Electronic Health Record)

Examples: hospitalisation history (part of Electronic Health Record)

Structure of simulator (III) Health care processes: Medicines Information: search, classification, use On-line classificators of medicines Doctor and nurse work places Management of surgery departments and operating theaters Laboratories and Pathology departments Management of Nursing and Rehabilitation Radiology, etc.

Examples: admission department, different priority patients

Examples: laboratories

Structure of simulator (IV) Specific health care tasks: -preventive programs (cervical cancer, breast cancer, colorectal cancer, etc.) -dialysis, cardiology, cardiosurgery, neurology, ostetrics, neonatology, children, etc.

Example: preventive programs

Further development of the HIS simulator Any department or specialist: Can develop ant test the new module – e.g. specific rehabilitation Can commercialize the module Can develop any situation as a training tool, e.g. risk profile for CVDs of the population and ask the students to develop the necessary interventions

Funding for the project was received from European Social Fund and Lithuanian government
