Symmetry, Dilations, Isometries & Tessellations (G.3c, d) WU- Checkpoint G.6- graded!!! Obj: SWBAT identify types of symmetry (9.4), dilated images (9.5), isometries (9.6) and figures that tessellate (9.7) *hw/hw log/wkb p. 237, 241, 245, 249 Homework(day 68) TEI/SOL packet (next two pages) Formula Quiz/SOL TEST “Storybook” collected for completion! Pearsonsuccess.net (due Friday)

Line of Symmetry – fold a picture in half the fold, is the line of symmetry. Point of Symmetry – common point usually in the center of the object.

Transformations – A change in position, shape or size of a picture. A transformation maps a figure onto its image. Pre – image – Original figure.Image – transformed figure. Symbol ___ (indicates a mapping) Prime Notation – used to identify image points. Reflection – A transformation represents a flip of a picture. Figure may be reflected in a point, a line or a plane. Line of Reflection – is a line through a figure that separates the figure into two mirror images. Pre - image Image

Ex: Dilations Find the measure of the dilation image of segment AB, 6 units long, with a scale factor of 1.S.F. = 4: image will be an enlargment. The image will be 24 units long. 2.S.F. = 2/3: the image will be a reduction. The image will be 2/3 times 6 or 4 units long. 3.S.F. = 1: this will be a congruence transformation. The image will be the same length as the original segment, 1 unit long. Lesson 10-5: Transformations-Henrico County 14

Classify each tessellation as Regular or semi-regular? Regular Semi-Regular

Look at the following shapes: Regular polygon TriangleSquarePentagonHexagonHeptagonOctagon Measure of 1 interior angle Does it Tessellate X XX Figures will tessellate only if the interior angle can be used in increments of 360

Classwork: 1.Graph triangle ABC where:A(5, 9), B(10, 2), C(3, 5) 2. Quadrant 1: Pre – image label vertices 3. Reflect triangle PQR over the x-axis. Label vertices with ordered pairs. 4.Reflect triangle PQR over the y-axis. Label vertices with ordered pairs. 5. Translate Triangle PQR Write the vertex matrix and the matrix for P′Q′R′. Graph and label vertices.
