BY:Dominique Pleasant The Iberian Lynx BY:Dominique Pleasant

Iberian Lynx Felis pardina Habitat- Open grassland mixed with dense shrubs and trees They can live in warm or hot climates but mostly warm. The Iberian Lynx is found in Spain an Portugal

Description Adult males weigh on the average 27.5 pounds and the females average 20. The fur is typically grayish, with tints varying from yellowish to rusty and is distinctly spotted. They have a flared facial ruff, long prominent black ear tufts, and long hind legs with a short black tipped tail. Their large, wide-spreading feet are covered in fur, which act like snowshoes, and are effective in supporting the cat’s weight on the snow..

What are their prey? The Iberian lynx eats European rabbits almost exclusively 93% of prey by weight during the summer with approximately one rabbit per day needed to fulfill energy requirements. Also eats: Red Dear fawns Fallow dear ducks

Reason for decline of population The decline of the population is because of a disease from their favorite prey the rabbit. Also accidental killing by snares set for rabbits and poison baits set for foxes and other predators, and road kill have also been factors. The last report was that its only a 120 Iberian Lynx left in the world

How they reproduce A female can breed her first year on if she has a compatible territory Birth season is around March-September The latest that they can reproduce is 10 years old They usually live up to 13 Can produce 3-4 cubs per year

Things that are being done to help the Iberian Lynx There a captive breeding program in Donana National Park A monitoring, habitat restoration and public awareness program in Montes De Toledo-Guadalmela area

Questions What is the scientific name of the Iberian Lynx? Where are they commonly found? What is their favorite prey? About how many is left in the world? About how old do they live to be?
