TeraGrid External Relations SC10 update Elizabeth Leake September 28, 2010

Booth integrates with the 2010 Science Highlights— Led by Warren Froelich, SDSC and designed by Carlton Bruett, Carlton Bruett Design Message from Forum Chair—XD: The Future is Now “Mid-2011 will see the launch of the next phase of the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) investment in high-end computing…XD will increase the productivity of the computationally-savvy researchers who use our resources, and the new infrastructure will enable major advances in science and engineering…. As chair of the TeraGrid Forum, it’s my pleasure to share this collection of science and engineering highlights. …Enjoy reading about the scientific advances TeraGrid made possible in 2010, and imagine what the future will hold!”

2010 Science Highlights— focus on the future 16 TeraGrid stories demonstrate: 1. Potential to transform research in a particular domain. 2. Use of several TeraGrid resources across multiple RP sites. 3. Research conducted at a single resource provider site: all RPs are represented. 4. Work of individuals who are typically under-represented in HPC. 5. The illumination of projects in fields of study that are typically under-represented. 6. TeraGrid's impact—it couldn't have been accomplished without it. 7. Collaborative efforts with other grids, international partners, business, and industry. A story about how TeraGrid resources were used to mitigate the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico will span four pages—also featured on a poster for the October NSF Science and Technology Expo in Washington DC, and on a prominent display in the SC’10 booth (TACC and LONI stories).

TRAC Process Involvement ER continues to watch the TRAC process in an effort to identify stories early in the process. Dan Katz and Elizabeth Leake alternate attending TRAC meetings in search of new highlights. A letter from Katz and Leake is included in the TRAC reviewer packet. Leake issues the quarterly deadline announcement, which also publicizes the number of cycles awarded in the previous quarter, resources available for the current cycle, and other information relevant to the transition to XD. See DRAFT Deadline Announcement. See DRAFT Deadline Announcement
