ASO Address Council Observed progress in the establishment of LACNIC and AFRINIC new RIRs. active and regular participation by LACNIC and AFRINIC representatives in ASO activities LACNIC expected to become an operational RIR November 2002 LACNIC is making preparations to elect ASO AC members at their first meeting following ICANN approval of operational status

ASO Address Council Discussion started to review RFC 2050 and its current relation to active policy. –Global Mailing list for discussion established: –Committees have been established to draft initial versions of proposed documents –New drafts should be available for public comment Fall 2002

ASO Address Council The RIRs have established a common IPv6 policy –After considerable coordination of the various RIR working groups, an IPv6 Policy was adopted by all RIRs to replace the interim policy –Policies under ongoing review as operational experience grows include criteria for initial allocations and standard assignment sizes for various end-user sites

ASO Address Council AC Statement Regarding ICANN Evolution and Reform The ASO AC endorses the Joint RIR “statement” of 20 June 2002 regarding ICANN's Evolution and Reform proposal. The functional strength of the ASO as a Supporting Organization arises from the active, bottom-up involvement of the existing and emerging RIR members. Preserving this process is elemental to keeping the ASO a legitimate guiding force in IP Address policy. By re-aligning certain IANA functions to enhance the operational efficiency of the RIRs collectively, the ASO AC will be able to maintain our member-driven policy formation process and integrate global policy where needed.
