A panda walks into a café. He orders a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and proceeds to fire it at the other patrons. "Why?" asks the confused, surviving waiter amidst the carnage, as the panda makes towards the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder. "Well, I'm a panda," he says. "Look it up." The waiter turns to the relevant entry in the manual and, sure enough, finds an explanation. "Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves."

Swanland Primary Academy Trust KS1 English grammar, punctuation and spelling No contextualised questions Written task has been removed Spelling tested by asking pupils to complete sentences with a word missing

Swanland Primary Academy Trust Grammar, punctuation and spelling lessons for all year groups as KS1 SATS paper based on knowledge from Year 1 and 2 Spelling tested by asking pupils to complete sentences with a word missing – no picture format or cvc words

Spelling in Year 2 Pupils work on the Spellchecker programme at home and have a Spellchecker assessment each half term and progress accordingly Spellchecker K is based on topic words and pupils and these are used during morning activities this term. This included in pack to highlight additional spelling.

Phonics Screening Test For those pupils who did not achieve the required level at the end of Year 1 will have to do this test again in June 2016 as well as all the KS1 SATS in May 2016 – including the spelling paper. Some of these pupils may receive help in the form of Direct Phonics Intervention All pupils who will need to resit the Phonics Screening test are going to be working with Mrs Chamberlain each Thursday afternoon from this week in order to address this part of the curriculum. Mrs Chamberlain will speak to parents individually to discuss their childs progress

Autumn 2 Spellings Daily Look Cover Say Spell sheets using words for Big Write session on a Friday. This is a morning job and these words are expected to be spelt correctly in their writing – have access to them. Pupils also have a dictionary.

Autumn 2 Spellings Over this half term all pupils are revisiting Phase 5 spellings which make up the Phonics Programme in Year 1 The booklet provided today summarises these sounds and spellings to be learnt over the coming weeks The pupils will be tested each week on their knowledge of these spelling and we would like these to be practiced at home. Autumn 1 homework looked at many of the spelling patterns. The spelling test will follow the new format so pupils are familiar with this routine The pupils will have three phonic sessions each week to teach and revisit Phase 5. There will be an assessment at the end of this term and results will be shared with you For those pupils confident in phase 5 they will be focusing on Spellchecker work and VCOP skills Spring Term - we envisage working on the Year 2 spelling curriculum Each Wednesday afternoon the pupils always take part in a spelling programme and mark their own work – these exercises are based on the Year 2 National Curriculum spellings and are a spelling challenge

Phase 5 We shall be looking at the following sounds

KS 1 Spelling 5.2 General guidance on marking Paper 1: spelling The following guidance applies to all questions in Paper 1. Please read this carefully before applying the individual mark schemes. If the pupil makes more than one attempt, it must be clear which answer the pupil wishes to be marked. If the pupil makes two or more attempts and it is not clear which is to be considered, you must not award the mark. The pupil can answer in upper or lower case, or a mixture of the two. The exception to this is for days of the week and months of the year, which must be written in lower-case letters with an initial capital letter for the award of the mark. If the pupil has answered with the correct sequence of letters but has incorrectly inserted an apostrophe or hyphen, you must not award the mark. If the pupil has answered with the correct sequence of letters but these have been separated into clearly divided components, with or without a dash, you must not award the mark.
