Mezgar 4 Goal of the Project P2P Project offers to SMEs in the agri-food sector Treaceability - from farm-to-fork Main Goals: develop methodologies and tools supporting the quick collection of information from different traceability systems so that citizens and public officers can easily access to such information in a unified approach. NO new tool development, but a general interface over the existing ones. Building trust for SMEs products in users vs. “brand” names of big firms.

IST - Dr. I. Mezgar 5 P2P Key Issues A methodology to assure easy collection of information from companies; An Internet based, open source software tool tailored on SMEs that supports collection, sharing and archiving information and documents from existing information systems of the companies;

IST - Dr. I. Mezgar 6 P2P Technical approach The software will be based on a communication protocol to share the information: the TRACE- XML protocol. The TRACE-XML protocol defines the minimum set of information to trace each product batch. The TRACE-XML protocol will represent the first step to define a standard to automatically access traceability information and documents of each company belonging to the agri-food sector.

Mezgar 8 Expected Results Trace Methodology: a methodology supporting traceability information collection in the companies (in particular how and what information) Trace-XML protocol: a minimum set of information to trace each batch and the related communication protocol Trace-SW: a software tool supporting collection, archiving and management of information and documents related to the traceability Trace-Browser: an ICT tool to browse (wired & mobile) the traceability information compliant with the TRACE- XML protocol

IST - Dr. I. Mezgar 9 Conclusions Through the application of the TRACE Methodology, the TRACE SW and the TRACE Browser SMEs will be able to prove the origin of their products, the ingredients of each part of the swine. These information can be used by the public officers, health services and also by the user. The full and the easy way (by mobile phones) to get information on the origin and the ingredients of the meat products generate trust in the users and in this way SMEs can compensate the advantages of big firms (e.g. the “brand”) in the market.
