Welcome Introductions: Mr Richard Irvine– Vice Chair of Governors Miss Julie Wilson – Head Teacher Unfortunately many other members of the team have been unable to join us, such a busy time of the year. However, we felt it was important to hold the meeting anyway to inform you of all the positive progress made.
Priority one: Improve teaching and learning and so raise achievement Many training sessions for all staff on setting high expectations and running lessons at a much brisker pace Deployment of Teaching Assistants far more effective and timetabled intervention groups set up to fully support all children’s progress
Sequences of lessons have become far more engaging so that children do not become distracted from their learning Marking policy reviewed and all work is marked thoroughly with clear targets set to help the children improve their understanding of the quality of their work and how it can be improved Staff trained in how to use assessment information correctly to provide the most suitable degree of support and challenge for each child Planning scrutiny, work scrutiny, lesson observations, pupil interviews, learning walks
LA support for Priority One: At least 4 Learning Support Advisors have worked in school since January This core group meet monthly School has undergone 2 whole school reviews conducted by Brian Pengelly and Gill Ellis (Education Improvement Advisors) Project Board Meetings are held monthly with myself, BP, Irene Punt and Clive
Priority two: Develop the leadership and management of the school Checks on teaching and learning have increased in frequency and rigour There is a manageable cycle of monitoring and evaluation in place Assessment information has been analysed to identify rates of progress for all children Staff have taken part in Performance Management Meetings Children’s assessment have been validated by county so we have an accurate picture of where the children are ready for rapid progress to be made in Aut 2013
My role as SENCO has been developed. We now have a refined SEN register Pupil needs has been audited and a whole school Provision Map has been created Correctly identified SEN children and relevant information has been cascaded down to teaching staff Individual Provision Maps have been created ready for September Lead teacher has been identified within the staff 2 further experienced outstanding teachers will join the team in September
Governors are undertaking training provided by county to ensure they challenge and support the school My own performance management process is far more rigorous
Priorities for Sept 2013 Foundations for rapid improvement have been laid, but the main priority now is to prepare the school for this rapid progress and improvement in the Autumn Term 2013 The LA will continue to support the school to maintain this momentum of change Smooth transition for new staff, beginning already this term Revised Strategic Improvement Plan to be written by October HMI will return at some point in the Autumn Term 2013
Question 1: Will Oak children have additional support this year? A grade 3 Teaching Assistant will join us in September. She/he will be deployed effectively to support the needs of the children. I do anticipate some of that support going into Oak Class
Question 2: Possible after school provision? Since January staff and outside agencies have run after school clubs such as: film club, bellboating club, ICT, Science, Art and craft club, Eco warrior club, Football and MFL It is the intention to continue with the variety of clubs in September plus additional ones We are still investigating before and after school care
