Autism is a life-long brain disorder that is normally diagnosed in early childhood. People with autism have difficulties communicating, forming relationships with others and find it hard to make sense of the world around them. Autism is a spectrum disorder varying in severity and impact from individual to individual, ranging from those with no speech and severe learning disabilities to people with average IQ’s that grow up and are able to start a family. People with autism may also have unusual patterns of language development, narrow interests and engage in repetitive and sometimes challenging behaviors What is Autism??

Boys are four times more likely to be diagnosed with autism than girls. Autism affects people of all racial, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. Finding the causes of autism is one of the most challenging areas of medical science. The cost of care, on average, over a life time is 3.2 million.. PER PERSON. 1% of Children in the U.S. between the ages of 3-17 have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder Roughly, only 57% of children with Autism graduate high school. Autism Facts:

No one knows exactly why but the brain develops differently in people with autism. It is now widely accepted by scientists that a predisposition to autism is inherited with the underlying genetic cause of up to 40% of autism cases having now been identified. There are currently no biological tests to confirm a diagnosis of autism. Identification of the condition is at present based solely on observed behaviors. A person with Fragile X syndrome, tuberous sclerosis, congenital rubella syndrome, and untreated phenylketonuria (PKU) are more prone to have Autism. What Causes Autism?

Not all symptoms are apparent within the first 2 years of a babies life, however become very noticeable between ages 2-6 years old. Some symptoms that are apparent before the age of 2 include: Inability to coo or babble by 12 months old. Inability to make gestures such as point, grasp, wave by 12 months old. By the age of 16 months being unable to say single words. And by 2 years old if child is unable to say two –worded phrases it is an Autism “red flag”. Symptoms of Autism

There is no medicinal cure for Autism. Sometimes Autism lessens as a child ages, and can disappear all together in some cases. The most common and resourceful “cure” is; ABA or Applied Behavior Analysis this improves social behaviors as therapy continues. Some vitamins that can help such as Vitamin B6 because it produces important chemicals in the brain. Magnesium can also help because it is a mineral necessary for the health of every cell in the body including proper brain and muscle function. Cures for Autism
