Properties of Water Lab Determining Sea Water Salinity Marine Biology

Warm Up 1.Draw 2 water molecules and label the following: Hydrogen Oxygen Hydrogen Bond Positive Negative 2.Describe what would happen if sodium was near your 2 water molecules. (Drawings suggested). Use these words: Solvent Solute Na+Cl- Hydrogen Oxygen Positive Negative Polar

Pre Lab 1.Copy the “PROBLEM” from page Create a HYPOTHESIS from this problem. 3.Copy the MATERIALS. Make sure to ask questions about new materials that you do not recognize. 4.Read the PROCEDURE and rewrite in your own words. (We will be using a hot plate in place of a Bunsen burner)Add 3 SAFETY steps you will need to take for this lab!

Pre Lab Continued Copy the table into your lab report for DATA COLLECTION

Lab Skills: Triple Beam Balance You will use on of these scales to take weight measurements for this lab.

Lab Skills: Beakers and Graduated Cylinder REMEMBER! What is the difference between a graduated cylinder and a beaker?

Post Lab Write your DATA ANALYSIS and CONCLUSION by answering #1-3 on page 379.
