Witness of the Scriptures Jesus is the Prophet raised up like unto Moses (Dt. 18:15-18; Acts 3:22; 7:37). He was called from the womb and His mouth was made like a sharp sword (Is. 49:1-5; Heb. 4:12; Rev. 1:16). The king greatly desired His beauty and the rich among the people intreated His favour (Ps. 45:11-12; Mt. 2:8-11). Grace was poured into His lips (Ps. 45:2; Lk. 4:22; Jn. 1:14- 17). He possessed the tongue of the learned (Is. 50:4; Mk. 1:35; Jn. 7:16-17; 8:28; 12:49), and His ear was opened to the Father’s will (Is. 50:5; Ps. 40:6-8; Mt. 26:39; Jn. 4:34; 6:38; Phil. 2:8; Heb. 5:8; 10:5-10). He opened His mouth in parables (Ps. 78:1-2; Mt. 13:35).

He is God’s servant in whom He delighted and upon whom He put His spirit (Is. 42:1-3; Mt. 12:18-20; Is. 11:1-2; 61:1-2; Lk. 4:18-19; Mt. 3:16; Jn. 3:34). In His day the eyes of the blind were opened, the ears of the deaf were unstopped, the lame man leaped, and the tongue of the dumb sang (Is. 29:18; 32:3-4; 35:5-6; Mt. 9:27-30; 11:5; 12:22; 20:30-34; 21:14; Jn. 9:6-7; Mk. 7:32-35; Acts 3:8). He came as a light to those that walked in darkness (Is. 9:2; 42:6-7; 49:6-9; 60:1-3; 62:2; Mt. 4:14-16; Lk. 1:79; 2:32; 4:18; Jn. 1:4-9; 11:52; Acts 13:47; 26:17-18). He was eaten up with zeal and reproaches fell upon Him (Ps. 69:9; Ps. 119:139; Jn. 2:17; Rom. 15:3).

He was “despised of the people” (Ps. 22:6; Is. 53:3; Mk. 9:12). He was hated without a cause (Ps. 35:19; 69:4; Jn. 15:25). He became a stranger unto His brethren and an alien unto His mother’s children (Ps. 69:8; Jn. 1:10-11). His heart was broken, He was full of heaviness, and there was none to comfort Him (Ps. 69:20; Mt. 26:37). His own familiar friend lifted up His heel against Him (Ps. 41:9; 55:12-14; Jn. 13:18-21; Acts 1:16-17). For thirty pieces of silver was He betrayed (Zech. 11:12-13; Mt. 26:15-16; 27:3-10).

False witnesses did rise up (Ps. 35:11; Mk. 14:57). As a deaf man He heard not, and as a dumb man He opened not His mouth (Ps. 38:13; 39:9; Is. 53:7; Acts 8:32; Mt. 26:63; Lk. 23:8-9; Jn. 19:9; 1 Pet. 2:23). His sheep were scattered (Zech. 13:7; Mt. 26:31). His lovers, friends, and kinsman stood afar off (Ps. 38:11; 88:8, 18; Lk. 23:49). They parted His garments among them, and cast lots upon His vesture (Ps. 22:18; Mt. 27:35; Mk. 15:24; Lk. 23:34; Jn. 19:24). He gave His back to the smiters and hid not His face from shame and spitting (Is. 50:6; Mt. 26:67; Jn. 18:22; 19:1).

Those who stared upon Him shaked their heads (Ps. 22:17; 109:25; Mt. 27:35, 39-44). They gnashed upon Him with their teeth (Ps. 35:16; 37:12; Mt. 27:44). They gave Him gall for meat and vinegar to drink (Ps. 69:21; Mt. 27:34, 48; Jn. 19:29). They pierced His hands and His feet (Ps. 22:16; Mt. 27:35; Mk. 15:24; Lk. 23:33; Jn. 19:23; 20:25-29). Not a bone of His body was broken (Ps. 22:17; 34:20; Ex. 12:46; Jn. 19:36). He committed His spirit into the hand of the Father (Ps. 31:5; Lk. 23:46).

He made His grave with the wicked and with the rich in His death (Is. 53:9; Mt. 27:57; 1 Pet. 2:22; Jn. 19:38-42). He poured out His soul unto death, was numbered with the transgressors, bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors (Is. 53:12; Mk. 15:28; Rom. 8:34; Heb. 7:25; Mt. 26:65-66; Lk. 23:32, 39-44). His garments smelled of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces (Ps. 45:8; Jn. 19:39). He was three days and three nights in the heart of the earth (Jonah 1:17; Mt. 12:40; 16:4; Lk. 11:30). His flesh did not see corruption (Ps. 16:8-11; Jonah 2:6; Acts 2:25-27, 31-32; 13:35-37).

He ascended on high and received gifts for men (Ps. 68:18; Acts 1:9; Eph. 4:8). His children are made to be princes in all the earth (Ps. 45:16; 1 Pet. 2:9; Rev. 1:6).
