The Attributes of a Good Mentor By Vinoth Kumar.R

Who is a Mentor? “A trusted counselor or guide”  Goal: To ease transition of mentee into new role.  Technique: Provides support, challenge, and vision through coaching, counseling, and supporting reflective problem-solving.  Duration: Described as a journey because the relationship unfolds over an extended period of time.

What Makes a Good Mentor?  Mentors listen  Mentors guide  Mentors are practical  Mentors criticize constructively  Mentors are supportive  Mentors care  Mentors succeed  Mentors are admirable

Mentors SHOULD Have reasonable expectations from the buddy Be a resource and provide honest and respectful feedback Allocate time and energy Help the mentee develop an appropriate development plan SHOULD NOT Dominate the relationship Seek out a buddy Do the work for the buddy
