PURE SCIENCE

WHAT IS ‘PURE SCIENCE’? Pure Science is a category of science that deals with research and theories. It is also known as natural science, basic science or fundamental science. It deals with the study of natural phenomena through observations, experimentation and use of scientific methods. The main purpose of pure science is to develop scientific theories. Physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics are some of the major streams pursued in pure science.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PURE SCIENCE AND APPLIED SCIENCE The largest differentiation in science is done on the basis of whether the science is pure or applied. Pure science explains a phenomenon, while applied science determines how a particular phenomenon can be applied in real life.

CATEGORIES IN PURE SCIENCE Pure science is divided into : Physical science - deals with matter and energy. Earth science - deals with the phenomena of Earth, its atmosphere, and the solar system in general. Life science - deals with living organisms, their internal processes, and their relationship with each other and the environment.

IMPORTANCE OF PURE SCIENCE Pure science is one of the most interesting and research oriented fields. It plays a crucial role in new discoveries and inventions. Pure science creates and establishes theories and hypotheses to understand our surroundings. It describes the most basic objects, forces, relations between them and laws governing them. Pursuing pure science requires curiosity in the various phenomena that occurs around us.

Different science subjects address different aspects of a natural phenomenon. For example, physics would cover the study of properties of matter and its constituents in the universe, the related forces and energy. Chemistry concerns itself with the reactions of the constituents of matter. Similarily, biology deals with the study of life forms and their function, growth, evolution and classification.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Basic eligibility for pursuing a Bachelors course in pure science is to complete a 10+2 education with subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Maths or Biology. Basic eligibility for pursuing post graduation courses in pure science is to complete a graduation course of minimum 3 years. Basic eligibility for pursuing PhD in pure science is to have completed post graduation with the minimum marks required in the related field.

SCOPE There is a lot of scope in this field of science. Pure science is promising, as it is the backbone for research and development. People who have studied pure science have a wide array of opportunities waiting for them in the field of education. If the student is inclined towards research, there are ample opportunities that the field of pure science offers. There is a huge demand for pure science students in the west, in the research arena.

Pure Science opens up plenty of opportunities in the state and central research organisations. People pursuing pure sciences can also work in various public sector enterprises.
