During the 100 years after the birth of the Italian republic, more than 20 million people emigrated from our country. Today this massive migration is called the “Big Migration” or the “Italian Diaspora”. During this period immigration was almost an inexistent process. But nowdays things are changed…
The rise of immigration Only from 1973 in Italy can be registered a major number of immigrants : 101 immigrants emigrants, characteristic that would have spread in the following years. Departing from 1979 Italy will start to register more and more foreign immigrants. With the “open doors politic” Italy will face with massive migration, starting from the “falling” of the Sovietic Union
First Massive Immigration In 1991, Italy faced the first massive migration from countries that belonged to the URSS, such as Poland or Romania, but expecially from Albania. According to Caritas’ datas, Italy was hosting almost migrants that year. Then, because of North African revolutions (known as Arab Spring), Italy faced from 2010 to 2012 an enormous migration from Libia, Egypt and Tunisia
